What is Massage Therapy?

This type of massage has been around for a very long time. It was the first systematic application of therapeutic massage used in the Western world. It is the use of long, flowing and rhythmic strokes and it is used to relax tired muscles and tissue adhesions/knots. It has the effect of creating a deep relaxing and healing effect on the client. The main purpose of the massage therapy is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. It shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. It also stimulates the skin and nervous system, soothing the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and it is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.
